Community Shield 2013 Betting Tips & offers – Manchester United vs Wigan

This Sunday 11th August sees the traditional curtain raiser to the new football season with the ‘Community Shield’ – or as most people still refer to it, The Charity Shield. The match is live on ITV1 and kick-off is at 2pm.

Traditionally this match is between 2 big teams, but this year sees league winners Manchester United taking on little Wigan Athletic, who surprised everyone by beating Man City in last season’s FA Cup Final, only to be relegated to the Championship.

The oddsmakers have taken no chances on Manchester United, installing them as heavy favourites in the outright betting market.

Community Shield 2013 Outright Betting

Manchester United 3/10 (BetVictor)

Wigan Athletic 5/1 (Bet365, Betfred)

Draw 12/1 (Skybet)

With those sorts of odds we can’t really recommend a bet unless you fancy a sneaky punt on the draw at 12/1 with Skybet.  We really can’t see Wigan upsetting the applecart here, though you never know with United having a new manager in David Moyes, maybe an upset is more likely than we think?

Community Shield First Goalscorer Betting

Robin van Persie 4/1

Javier Hernandez 5/1

Wanye Rooney 5/1

Danny Welbeck 6/1

Shinji Kagawa 17/2

Wilfried Zaha 17/2

Nani 8/1

Ashley Young 9/1

Grant Holt 11/1

Callum McManaman 16/1

With Wayne Rooney looking likely to miss out, there could be some interest in having a punt on Javier Hernandez.  Probably more interesting though is the 17/2 on Shinji Kagawa who is a big possibility to play in the hole behind Van Persie in Rooney’s likely absence.  Kagawa has been in good form and banged in a few goals in pre-season.

1st Goalscorer – 2 pts on Shinji Kagawa @ 17/2

Community Shield Correct Score Betting

2-0 Man Utd 15/2

1-0 Man Utd 9/1

3-0 Man Utd 10/1

2-1 Man Utd 10/1

3-1 Man Utd 11/1

1-1 Draw 11/1

4-0 Man Utd 17/1

4-1 Man Utd 18/1

0-0 Draw 20/1

2-2 Draw 22/1

3-2 Man Utd 25/1

2-1 Wigan 28/1

1-0 Wigan 28/1

5-0 Man Utd 35/1

5-1 Man Utd 40/1

4-2 Man Utd 50/1

6-0 Man Utd 66/1

2-0 Wigan 66/1

All others 66/1 and above

Wigan will be really going for it and had a great start to the season last week, thumping Barnsley 4-0.  the signings have been good by Owen Coyle and they look likely to go well this season.  United are another proposition than barnsley though and we think they are likely to run out winners.  Don’t bet against Wigan having a good go though and maybe nicking a goal.  Therefore we are choosing a couple of scorelines in 2-1 and 3-1 to Man Utd.

1pt on 2-1 to Man Utd @ 10/1

1pt on 3-1 to Man Utd @ 11/1
