England take on Montenegro this Friday in the first of two World Cup Qualifiers that will decide the fate of England’s World Cup dreams – the other match being against Poland on Tuesday. Both matches are at Wembley and with home advantage England will be hoping for two wins to ensure automatic qualification is gained.

World Cup Qualifying Group H Outright Odds to win group
England 2/5 (Various Bookies)
Ukraine 11/4 (Sportingbet and Ladbrokes)
Montenegro 16/1 (BetVictor)
Poland 150/1 (BetVictor)
England have been made very short odds favourites to win the group, I certainly won’t be backing them at those sorts of odds due to the lacklustre nature of some of their displays under Roy Hodgson. It might be good value to have a little sneaky few quid on Ukraine, if you can bring yourself to back against England.
England vs Montenegro Outright Betting
England 4/11 (Various Bookies)
Draw 4/1 (Stan James and Totesport)
Montenegro 8/1 (Various Bookies)
I find these odds very surprising, yes England should be favourites at home, but on the other hand we have yet to beat any of our main group rivals, with a series of draws against teams we should arguably be beating.
The 4/11 for England to win outright therefore makes no appeal at all and while I can’t bet against England myself, I do think there is surely some value in the upset, be that either a draw or Montenegro win, the odds are big.
England vs Montenegro – 1st Goalscorer
Daniel Sturridge comes into this one in hot form and at 5/1 represents good value for a punt. Leighton Baines looks very likely to start at left-back in the absence of Ashley Cole and will be on all the free-kicks, so could be worth a punt at 20/1, maybe a free-kick will decide what could be a tense and nervy game.
Man City’s summer signing Stevan Jovetic is the main man for Montenegro and is a very decent player even though he hasn’t yet been able to show it in the Premier League. At odds of 14/1 he definitely represents some value. Montenegro’s other main striker is the classy Mirko Vucinic and he can also be got at a best price of 12/1 with Skybet and Bet365.
Daniel Sturridge 2pts @ 5/1 (Skybet and Bet365)
Stevan Jovetic 1 pt @ 14/1 (Skybet, Bet365 and Paddy Power)
Leighton Baines 1pt @ 20/1 (Skybet)
