Real take on Atletico this Saturday 24th May in an all-Madrid Champions League Final. The match will be shown live on terrestrial TV in the UK on ITV and the match will kick off at 7.45pm UK time.
There will be an array of this season’s top performers on show – Atletico are more built around a team ethic but still rely on oustanding performers such as Diego Costa, Diego Godin, Arda Turan and Koke. Real Madrid on the other hand boast a huge amount of superstars who have been bought over the last few years including the obvious ones such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Angel Di Maria etc etc.
Atletico have enjoyed a superb season under the guidance of up and coming manager Diego Simeone, but stuttered towards the end when it had looked like they had it totally in the bag – in the end the title went right down to the wire with only a last day draw at the Nou Camp against Barcelona finally securing the title.
Real Madrid have had an ultimately frustrating season so far, they won the Copa Del Rey and their La Liga campaign delivered some superb performances with some huge wins, but just a few slip-ups here and there have cost them and they were out of the title race by the last couple of games. In a way this could prove some advantage as the Champions League became the major focus of their season as they drifted out of La Liga contention. So what are the odds for the final?
Real Madrid 19/20 (Bet365)
Draw 5/2 (Betfred)
Atletico Madrid 10/3 (Coral)
The odds seem rather big for Atletico considering the excellent season they have had. The head to head record between the 2 teams this season has been:
Sat 28/09/13 La Liga Real Madrid 0 – 1 Atlético Madrid
Wed 05/02/14 Copa Del Rey Real Madrid 3 – 0 Atlético Madrid
Tue 11/02/14 Copa Del Rey Atlético Madrid 0 – 2 Real Madrid
Sun 02/03/14 La Liga Atlético Madrid 2 – 2 Real Madrid
So in the two Copa Del Rey games it was clear that Real Madrid had some superiority, but in the league games which were arguably more important, Atletico took 4 points off Real. We feel that 10/3 for the current Spanish champions is a meaty price and would take on Real Madrid as they don’t look value at a best price of only 19/20 with Bet365. It can be argued that Atletico have looked tired in recent weeks after a long, hard season, but they have had a week’s rest for this game and should be somewhat refreshed after their La Liga win.
Recommended Bet:
3 pts Atletico Madrid at 10/3 with Coral
There are a couple of special betting offers for the final, with Totesport offering a massive 4/1 on Real Madrid for new customers and Coral offering a similar deal, they go 3/1 for Real Madrid for new customers.
