Premier League Top Goalscorer Betting Tips 2014/15 Season
The market for the 2014/15 Premier League top goalscorer is likely to prove particularly popular this season following the arrival of some attacking players for huge amounts of money. Chelsea and Arsenal in particular have bolstered their options up top and we could also see a much improved return from the front men at Manchester United this season. While players such as Diego Costa and Alexis Sanchez are sure to be popular choices with football punters, it’s a Premier League veteran who currently heads the betting.
Current Premier League Top Goalscorer Odds
Robin van Persie 5/1 (Ladbrokes)
Sergio Aguero 11/2 (Bet365)
Daniel Sturridge 7/1 (William Hill)
Diego Costa 7/1 (Bet365)
Wayne Rooney 14/1 (Coral)
Alexis Sanchez 16/1 (Paddy Power)
Edin Dzeko 16/1 (Betfred)
Romelu Lukaku 20/1 (Betfred)
Olivier Giroud 20/1 (Bet365)
Yaya Toure 25/1 (Paddy Power)
Wilfried Bony 28/1 (Bet365)
Loic Remy 40/1 (Sportingbet)
Manchester United and Netherlands striker Robin van Persie is the favourite to collect the Premier League Golden Boot come the end of this campaign, with the Dutchman available to back at a best price of 5/1 with Ladbrokes. Van Persie was blighted by injuries last season and didn’t really look to be enjoying his football under David Moyes when he did feature. The former Arsenal hitman had an excellent World Cup, reaching the semi finals with Holland and he will certainly feel more at home at Utd with his World Cup boss Louis van Gaal having joined the club. I’d expect Robin van Persie to captain Manchester United in their opening match against Swansea City and rack up a decent number of goals during the course of the next nine months.
Manchester City’s Argentinian forward Sergio Aguero has struggled for fitness in recent months and had a limited role with his national side at the World Cup as a result. That could actually have been a blessing in disguise and possibly gave the talented goalscorer time to get over his injury problems. Coming into the 2014/15 campaign fresh will be a huge bonus for Sergio and I wouldn’t put anyone off taking the odds of 11/2 on offer at bet365. A return of 52 goals in 87 appearances for the club tells us all we need to know about the former Atletico Madrid man and Aguero will be key to Manchester City’s hopes of winning the title.
Although Liverpool have lost the services of Luis Suarez, they still have one of the most dangerous strikers in the division at their disposal. Daniel Sturridge has really flourished under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers and fired 31 goals in 43 games during his debut season for the Reds. There’s no doubt that Suarez was the most important factor in Liverpool finishing second in the Premier League last season and securing Champions League football for the first time since 2009, but Sturridge’s contribution wasn’t far behind.
While the 24 year old didn’t manage to get past the group stage with England during the World Cup, he did carry himself very well and spoke to the media with confidence and maturity. I can only see him improving in the coming years and unlike some pundits, I’m not completely writing off Liverpool’s Premier League chances. Brendan Rodgers has made some excellent signings during the transfer window which has improved his squad dramatically and the pace in the side will ensure they score plenty of goals once again this year. Sturridge is on offer at odds of 7/1 with William Hill and I think that’s a cracking each way bet to nothing.
Considering Manchester United have no European football to compete in during the upcoming season, I’m surprised to see Wayne Rooney available at odds as big as 14/1. Rooney did take a bit of stick during England’s dismal World Cup campaign but he’s still one of the very best forwards in the Premier League and I can definitely see him being in the top three goalscorers come the end of the Premier League season. Under Louis van Gaal, I fully expect Manchester United to net plenty of goals, particularly at Old Trafford and on that basis, Wayne Rooney is superb value at his current price.
