It’s the first Manchester derby of the season this Sunday 2nd November with City enjoying home advantage, the match is a 1.30pm kick off and is live on Sky Sports 1 in the UK. It’s an intriguing match up, City have started this season in poor form and have yet to get anywhere near last season’s performances. United have also had a poor start but things have looked to be picking up in recent weeks including a deserved 1-1 draw against in-form Chelsea.
So how are the bookies seeing it?
Man City 10/11 (Bet365)
Draw 14/5 (Ladbrokes, SkyBet)
Man United 10/3 (Bet365)
City are rightly the favourites at home, their form at the Etihad is usually very impressive however this season in 7 home games they have won 3, drawn 2 and lost 2 in all competitions, so the air of invincibility that they had last season seems have gone for now. David Silva pulled up injured in the midweek League Cup loss to Newcastle, so City’s key creator looks like he will miss the game.
United looked to be coming into some sort of form last week against Chelsea, having several chances to score and it looks like Louis Van Gaal’s methods and new signings might be starting to come to some sort of fruition. Wayne Rooney is also set to return, so with City in something of a bad patch there definitely looks to be some value in taking on the favourites.
14/5 for the draw with Ladbrokes actually looks quite tasty as I fancy United to get something from the game.
Yes 4/7 (Boylesports)
No 6/4 (Paddy Power)
The favourite here is that both teams will score and I’m not going to argue with that. Both teams have looked shocking in defence so far this season and with the amount of attacking talent on display I can see goals for both sides here so would suggest a bet on ‘Yes’ at 4/7 with Boylesports.
Aguero 4/1 (Ladbrokes)
Dzeko 6/1 (Ladbrokes)
Jovetic 13/2 (Paddy Power)
Falcao 7/1 (Coral)
Van Persie 7/1 (Coral)
Yaya Toure 8/1 (Ladbrokes)
Rooney 8/1 (Coral)
Di Maria 11/1 (Bet365)
The first goalscorer market looks wide open. Aguero only got 20 minutes in the midweek League Cup loss so will be fresh for this so he looks a good shout at 4/1 for City. On the United side, Van Persie showed glimpses of re-discovering his old form last week against Chelsea and looks quite a big price at 7/1.
Rooney looks a big price at 8/1, there are some doubts over his fitness as he was rumoured to be seen limping earlier in the week, but if he does play then that’s a big price for a man who often enjoys himself against City.
Out of the selections I do think that Van Persie is the best value at 7/1 after a good showing against Chelsea and the awful looking City defence at the moment.
I have a feeling this could be an entertaining draw so looking at the prices I think a 1-1 or 2-2 could be in order. the prices for those 2 results are:
1-1 Draw 7/1 (Betfred)
2-2 Draw 12/1 (Bet365)
I am leaning towards an entertaining 2-2 draw, I don’t really do correct score bets as they are very hard to get correct, but if you want a small stakes punt on this correct score then it can be got at 12/1 with Bet365.
