London Masters Snooker 2015 Betting Tips and Preview

This year’s prestigious Masters Snooker event gets under way on 11th January at London’s Alexandra Palace.  Part of what is known as the Snooker Triple Crown alongside the UK Championship and World Championship, the Masters features the top 16 players in the world, and the play is always of the very highest quality.

Ronnie in great form

All eyes will be on the defending champion and world number three Ronnie O’Sullivan, following his fantastic form at the biggest events in recent months.  The Rocket has been put in at a best price of 7/4 to land what would be his sixth Masters title overall.  When at his best, O’Sullivan is often unplayable and is it not difficult to see why the bookies make his such a short price prior to a ball being stuck at the tournament.

Ronnie O'Sullivan 2014 London Masters

Ronnie followed up victory at the Champion of Champions final over Judd Trump with another win against the same opponent at the conclusion of the UK Championship.  He was made to fight particularly hard by Trump in the latter stages of that match, and it is arguable that a younger O’Sullivan would not have been mentally strong enough to cope with the sustained comeback from Trump.  Improvement in the mental side of the game where Ronnie is concerned is clear of all to see, and his work with renowned sports psychiatrist Steve Peters has definitely paid off.  If Ronnie O’Sullivan can pick up where he left off at the UK Championship, he will be very difficult to beat at the Alexandra Palace.

Judd Trump

Following his successive final defeats to Ronnie O’Sullivan, Judd Trump is the obvious place to start looking for a potential alternative to the market leader.  The 25 year old has been one of the best things to happen to snooker in recent years, and appears to be showing a greater level of maturity at the table than in seasons gone by.

Trump showed a tremendous amount of steel and determination to fightback from what seemed an impossible position in the final of this season’s UK Championship, and he was just a frame away from claiming what would have been one of the most famous of victories.

The former world number one can take a lot of confidence from that display, and he should come into the Masters full of confidence. Although his Masters record leaves a little to be desired, this could well be the year that Judd Trump makes a bold bid for the prestigious crown, and the 13/2 on offer with Sky Bet could well be an each way bet to nothing.

Neil Robertson – each-way chances

Australian Neil Robertson is the current world number one, and it would be foolish to discount his chances of taking the 2015 Masters title.  The 2012 champion also finished runner-up the following year, and knows exactly what it takes to win this event.  Just one of nine players to have won snooker’s Triple Crown, Robertson is undoubtedly one of the very best players of his generation.  The former World Champion is one of the most consistent players on tour, and he has been rewarded for that by maintaining a position at the very top of the world rankings over the past few years.

Robertson has been in fine form thus far during the 2014/15 campaign, with a victory at the Wuxi Classic, as well as well as a final appearance at the Australian Goldfields Open, and a run to the semi finals of the more recent Champion of Champions event.  Coral go a stand out price of 7/1 about Neil Robertson, and that for me is definitely the value play for those punters looking to oppose favourite Ronnie O’Sullivan.
